Arsenal vs Manchester City – Football Match Report – January 1, 2022

Manchester City have won 11 consecutive Premier League wins as Rodri scored a 93rd-minute goal to defeat Arsenal at 10 2-1 in a chaotic start until 2022.

Bukayo Saka put Arsenal ahead in the first half before Riyad Mahrez converted a penalty in the second half. Gabriel was sent off moments later for a second yellow card.

Rodri secured a late winner in added time to secure victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.

“You always have two or three games like this in a season. They showed why they belong. The way they grew up with Mikel [Arteta] is huge, ”he said after the game.

“We know they have more rest than us. They have six days to prepare, we have three games in a week and we travel. It is sometimes difficult, when you don’t have the physique. We may have to. -be playing a little easier.

“We struggled in the first half but took a little more control in the second and played our game better. They played a good game but we showed our champion personality.”

Arsenal started the brighter game of the two teams and earned the advantage in the 31st minute.

Ben White dispossessed Kevin De Bruyne and reunited with Kieran Tierney in space. He passed the ball to Saka who first hit it past Ederson and into the net.

City started the second half stronger and secured a penalty awarded by VAR in the 53rd minute when Granit Xhaka knocked Bernardo Silva into the box and Mahrez expertly converted the kick.

Things got worse for Arsenal six minutes later when Gabriel was sent off for fouling Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal held on despite their shorthandedness but were caught by City three minutes into added time. Aymeric Laporte fired a shot that was saved by Aaron Ramsdale but only rebounded to Rodri who hit it in the net.
