Let’s take a look at the team news as Manchester United attempt to secure four straight wins in all competitions against an Aston Villa side with new manager Unai Emery on Sunday. Emery was revealed as Villa manager on Friday, with the Spaniard returning to the Premier League after his short stay at Arsenal.
The Red Devils come into this game on the back of a Comeback victory against Real Sociedad in the Europa League, although he failed to clinch first place. In the Premier League, Manchester United are currently fifth in the table with 23 points, while a disappointing start left Aston Villa in 16th place, just one point from the relegation zone.
List of injuries/suspensions:
Douglas Luiz has avoided a three-match ban after his red card against Fulham was revoked. Emery will be without Boubacar Kamara, Ludwig Augustinsson and Diego Carlos through injury, but Emiliano Martinez is expected to be back in the goalkeeping role after recovering from a head injury which forced him to face Newcastle United.
Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings are expected to feature in the squad again, while Leon Bailey is expected to feature in a wide area for the hosts.
United boss Erik ten Hag will be the most will probably miss the trio of Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Antony this weekend. Antony has a stroke while Sancho is sick. Bruno Fernandes’ suspension means either Fred or Donny van de Beek could start.
Ten Hag has a big decision to make at the heart of his defence, and Victor Lindelof could possibly get the green light on Harry Maguire to start alongside Lisandro Martinez. Rashford was used as a substitute against Real Sociedad but is expected to be back in the starting line-up here, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, who has nine career goals against Villa.
Player to Watch – Danny Ings
What makes Ings a typical but quality England striker in arguably the most demanding league in the world is his incredible attitude of never saying off the ball. The sniper spends nearly half of his time in his own half, chasing players and closing gaps, while forcing the opposition to step up their passing game.
The 30-year-old striker is also skilled with both feet which means he easily jumps challenges and has good balance on the ball. Ings is physical, quick on his toes and a real fighter throughout his time on the court.
Aston Villa Form:
Form of Manchester United:

Expected score: Aston Villa 0-2 Manchester United
Manchester United are expected to be comfortable winners in this contest with Aston Villa playing their first game under the new manager. Emery will need time to assess his players and get his preferred starting XI. Expect goals from Ronaldo and Rashford in this one and United’s defense hold firm against Villa’s attack for a clean sheet.
