Aston Villa receives transfer request from Manchester United as deal closes

Aston Villa center-back Axel Tuanzebe is expected to return to Manchester United ahead of a proposed move to Italian club Napoli in January.

The defender has joined Villa on loan for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign but the loan will be cut short as Tuanzebe is set to move to Napoli this window.

He has only made four Premier League starts this season and under new Villa boss Steven Gerrard, Tuanzebe has seen just eight minutes of bench action in seven games.

With the defender now freeing up space in Villa’s squad, his departure will also allow Villa to bring in another United player if he wishes.

Premier League rules state: “The maximum number of recordable loans in a single season is four and under no circumstances may more than one loan be from the same club at any one time.”

United midfield duo Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek have both struggled to buy time this season and under new boss Ralf Rangnick.

Lingard has yet to play under Rangnick, while van de Beek has only played six minutes of football in two replacement matches against Crystal Palace and Norwich City.

Villa fans on social media believe either midfielder would bolster Gerrard’s ranks this transfer window.

@ OgeeDj68 : Lingard or VDB, the latter tore it up for Ajax and the Netherlands only for the reason that this is not the case at Man U, there is no playing time or belief in him and the system they play goes against him, he was not far behind Frenkie De Jong

@ dophillips02 : Lingard. Either would be great.

@ ONajib8 : Lingard

@ Ant_Mossarelli : Lingard or Van de Beek would be excellent supplements. But prefer to target permanent signatures rather than loan signatures.

@ a star1982 : Yes why not

@ Wheeler_avfc19 : I haven’t been Lingard’s biggest fan in the past but there is no doubt that he would improve our attackers.

@ tomavfc_1 : Lingard if someone

@ AstonVilla_info : Why not go find Jesse Lingard! He would take us to the next level like he did with West Ham. Yes it’s free in the summer but we can have it now for £ 10million. No headache for me, in the prime of my life too.
