Aston Villa vs Manchester City prediction and odds: defenses could dominate in Villa Park clash

Check out our 7/5 Aston Villa vs Manchester City prediction below

Manchester City’s trip to Villa Park seems a bit trickier than it was a few weeks ago, but City are on a roll right now and it’s no big surprise to see them negotiating so short than 7/20 to make it six wins on the rebound. Wednesday evening.

The Premier League champions haven’t looked back since being stunned by Crystal Palace at the Etihad last month and they never really looked in trouble in Sunday’s 2-1 win over West Ham, fourth, which is emphasized by the Hammers xGF of just 0.2.

They are a City side that don’t leave much chances, although they will do well to do the same at Villa Park against an Aston Villa side that seems revitalized since the arrival of Steven Gerrard.

Two wins and not a single goal conceded, it’s a good start for Gerrard considering Villa had lost five on the rebound when he entered.

Of course, Manchester City is completely different from Brighton and Crystal Palace, but the vibe around Villa Park is chalk and cheesy from what it was before the international break.

During that five-game stretch that ultimately cost Dean Smith his job, Villa is averaging an xGA of 1.9 goals per game. It’s a small sample size, but Gerrard has already reduced it to 0.65 xGA in both of his supported games.

It’s tangible progress in making Villa harder to beat, a trait that will stand them in good stead on Wednesday night, especially as City haven’t really been prolific in front of goal on the road (ten away goals are the lowest total among teams in the top four).

Prediction Aston Villa vs Manchester City

This is going to be a much more difficult test for Aston Villa’s progress under Gerrard but, although they have seen some important moments in the last two games, the signs are promising, certainly from a defensive perspective.

The market suggests this is pretty much a formality for City, but it might not be that easy in a bustling Villa Park.

City have conceded just four road goals this quarter, so with Villa rising in that department as well, this might not prove to be a top-level encounter. Bettors tend not to like backing the unders, but the 7/5 on less than three goals in this game has some appeal, so that’s the bet for us.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals – 7/5
