Brighton end talks with Manchester City over Marc Cucurella deal

Brighton have ended talks with Manchester City over the sale of Marc Cucurella – and will only accept an offer at the asking price, Athleticism understand.

Left-back Cucurella submitted a transfer request on Friday but it is understood that has not changed Brighton’s position. They want a fee of over £50m (€59.5m, $60.8m).

The south coast club will not be discussing any further bid increases, as happened with Ben White when he moved to Arsenal.

Brighton see Cucurella as a rarer and better talent than England international White, as he plays three positions on the left.

Why Manchester City want Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella

This follows City making a £30million bid for Cucurella after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal. Athleticism previously signaled he was willing to go up to £40m to acquire his services.

The 24-year-old has expressed his desire to join the reigning Premier League champions, while personal terms shouldn’t be an issue in any potential deal.

Last season Cucurella played 38 games in an impressive debut season at Brighton, registering one goal and two assists.

The Spaniard signed for Brighton from Getafe for £15million and The Athletic reported earlier this month that the club were trying to negotiate an improved deal for him.

City face Liverpool in the Community Shield on Saturday and then take on West Ham United in their Premier League opener on August 7.
