Erling Haaland wants to draw a line under his recent criticism of Borrusia Dortmund after saying the club are putting him under ‘pressure’ to make a decision on his future.
The prolific striker is set to be at the center of the biggest transfer saga of the summer, with all major European clubs – including Manchester United and Manchester City – interested in signing the game’s hottest property.
Haaland is still only 21 but has been in remarkable goalscoring form for years now. He has 23 goals to his name this season in 20 games and 80 in just 79 appearances since joining Dortmund two years ago.
With a much-vaunted release clause of just €75m set to come into effect this summer, it’s presumed the Norwegian will play for a new club next season, but it remains possible he could stay at Signal Iduna Park. .
Haaland revealed two weeks ago that he was feeling pressure from the club to decide whether to leave the club or not but now he wants to comment.
“I felt it was time for me to say something,” he said Sky sports. “A lot of others were talking, so that was it.
“And now I really don’t want to say too much about it. What’s been said, has been said, and we’re moving on.”
Haaland dropped his bombshell on Dortmund, further sparking speculation a move is on the cards, after scoring a brace in a 5-1 win over Freiburg on January 14.
“For the past six months I have chosen to say nothing out of respect for Dortmund,” Haaland told Viaplay.
“But now the club has started to pressure me to make a decision, but all I want is to play football.
“But they are pressing me to make a decision now about my future. So that means I have to make a decision soon.
“I said from the start that I wanted to focus on football because that’s where I perform best, not when other things come to mind.
“Now they’ve been putting the pressure on for a while. So it’s time to start. All I want is to play football, but I can’t do that now.”
Both Manchester clubs are expected to be on the hunt for a striker this summer and will be in the hunt for Haaland.
City are still looking for a replacement for Sergio Aguero after failing to sign Harry Kane last year.
United are set to lose Edinson Cavani – along with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and possibly even Anthony Martial – this summer and will aim to sign reinforcements in attack.
