‘Fly my boy’: Manchester City full-back reacts to Arsenal’s £45m pre-season ace

‘Fly my boy’: Manchester City full-back reacts to Arsenal’s £45m pre-season ace

Joao Cancelo told Gabriel Jesus to ‘steal my boy’ on Instagram as Arsenal’s new star continues to shine in pre-season.

Arsenal paid Manchester City £45m for Jesus’ services earlier this summer (Eurosport), and the 25-year-old has scored three goals in his first two pre-season appearances.

The Gunners beat Everton 2-0 in Baltimore on Sunday, and the versatile striker posted the following message, to which Cancelo replied in the comments section, “fly my boy”.

How many goals is Jesus likely to score for Arsenal next season? Those in north London will hope he scores 15 or more goals in the Premier League alone.

Last season, Sadio Mane, Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Mo Salah all scored 17 or more goals, with the latter two winning the Golden Boot.

Jesus hasn’t scored more than 15 goals in England’s top flight, which has raised some eyebrows considering he played for a dominant, goal-scoring Manchester City side.

However, the Brazil international is contributing more than just goals due to his ability to link play, create space for his teammates and play on the front three.

Pep Guardiola has used him in a variety of roles at the Etihad but Mikel Arteta’s main focus will be to use him in a central role.

Either way, there’s a lot of pressure on Jesus’ shoulders now that he’s the oldest man in the final third, with Eddie Nketiah as a backup option.

Arsenal will kick off the 2022/23 Premier League season against Crystal Palace, with Arteta hoping to avoid a repeat of what happened against Brentford last season.
