Speculation continues to swirl around Brednan Rodgers and Manchester United.
Reports have claimed Rodgers will be United’s main target in the event Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sacked.
Solskjaer is under intense pressure after a string of results dating back to September 19 when United won at West Ham United.
Since that game, the Red Devils have won only once in the Premier League and have had to be saved by Cristiano Ronaldo twice in the Champions League.
Leicester City boss Rodgers is the betting favorite to become United’s next manager and a move for the ex-Liverpool manager would be realistic.
Rodgers brought Liverpool within an inch of the Premier League title in 2014 and led City to the edge of the Champions League in their two full seasons at the King Power Stadium so far.
If Rodgers moves to United, he could use the talent he helped develop at City and try to recruit some of the club’s players from Old Trafford.
Here are four players he could target …
Ndidi has been one of the Premier League’s best midfielders in recent seasons and United fans have been eagerly awaiting their side to make a step for the Nigeria international.
The 2017 signing of Genk’s Belgian side has been under heavy pressure to leave the King Power stadium with Arsenal also credited with an interest in the player.
Described as a “very, very important player” for City by Rodgers, he could be the midfielder United fans are calling for.
Ndidi would be an expensive signing, however, given he is under contract for an additional three years.
Fofana’s impressive performances last season have raised concerns that he could be on the move with Liverpool linked with the player.
He’s been out since preseason after sustaining a serious leg injury after a horror tackle in a game against Villarreal, but he’s set to return.
Fofana, still only 20 years old, is a real talent and would immediately improve United’s center-back ranks.
Having only signed from Saint-Etienne last year, his contract at City runs until 2025.
Tielemans is another who flourished under Rodgers’ tutelage.
The Belgium international is out of contract in June 2023 and Rodgers said last month that City were awaiting news from the player’s agents about their offer to extend his current contract.
City’s reigning player of the season has Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool and – according to reports – United on his heels after a strong 2020-21 season.
Tielemans, 25 in May, is blossoming into a great Premier League talent.
If United look to add competition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka – who has been below par this season – they could do worse than Ricardo Pereira.
Ricardo, returning from a serious knee injury, was City’s player of the season in 2018-19 and has proven to be a more than capable option at right-back.
Ricardo is an attacking full-back who has scored twice and recorded seven assists in his debut campaign for City.
He could be a realistic signing for Rodgers if he moves to City.
