John O’ Shea has given his opinion on potential Manchester United transfer targets

MANCHESTER UNITED are really taking their time in this year’s transfer window.

As other clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool add numbers to their ranks, United have bided their time, much to the frustration of United fans.

A host of players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford which includes the likes of Christian Eriksen, Kalvin Phillips, Richarlison and Frankie de Jong.

Those names have come up repeatedly in the media and one former player who has given his opinion on who United should and shouldn’t sign is John O’ Shea, who was speaking to power of rice

O’Shea believes that Eriksen, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, may not be what the club need right now

“When a good player becomes available they will find a way to bring him in if they can and if the manager wants him. With Christian Eriksen they would have had discussions about him,” said the former Irish player.

“Fortunately he has returned to full fitness and he showed his quality at Brentford last season. There are a lot of boxes to tick in terms of what he can bring to the team, but is he the person needed for this team at the moment? Manchester United need to weigh those options.

“Eriksen is a quality player, no one denies that. But is he the right person for what Manchester United need at the moment? It depends on the manager and the recruitment team.

“There are other players at Ajax that Ten Hag should know very well and you hope that if there were certain people that he thought could settle quickly in the Premier League and at Manchester United, then I hope they can cross the line.

“I’m sure behind the scenes they’ll be discussing this and hopefully these things can happen fairly quickly.”

Kalvin Phillips has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but due to his links with Leeds he is expected to join Premier League champions Manchester City.

O’ Shea also thought Phillip’s should forget about City and sign for Erik ten Hag’s United side

“Despite links with Man City, Kalvin Phillips should think about the other Manchester side! He’s done well for England and really well for Leeds and I know it would create more controversy if he moved to the side. Manchester red, but it’s certainly an area United would look into.

There is also Declan Rice alongside Kalvin Phillips and N’Golo Kanté. If United could get any of these three players it would be a big boost for everyone at the club.

Another player who is heavily linked with United this year is Ajax winger Antony, who played under ex-manager Ten Hag.

The Waterford native believes the Brazilian would solve a long-term problem for United on the right side of the front line. Most of United’s play has been on the opposite left side.

“Despite Manchester United’s interest in Antony, there are other positions they will focus on, perhaps in central midfield and also at the back,” he explained.

“What they will look at with Antony is the balance of the team. He is left footed and the wide forwards United already have in Sancho, Rashford and Elanga are all right footed. He will bring balance to the team. The manager knows him well and I hope Erik ten Hag has chosen him because he will fit in well and be a nice piece of the puzzle.
