Leicester City transfer point made as Manchester United ‘consider’ N’Golo Kante offer

Manchester United fans insisted they should have made a move for N’Golo Kante when he left Leicester City in the summer of 2016.

After helping City win the Premier League title in his only season at the club, the Frenchman moved to Chelsea the following summer for a fee of around £32m. A clause in the midfielder’s contract allowed him to move on for a small fee.

However, Chelsea were forced to pay a larger fee due to their failure to qualify for the competition at the end of the 15/16 season. It was a signing that proved to be a masterstroke for the Blues.

Since joining Stamford Bridge, Kante has helped Chelsea win a Premier League, Europa League and Champions League. He was also named player of the season in 2017 and won the World Cup with France in 2018.

However, over the past two seasons, Kante has missed a number of games due to injury. This weekend the Guardian suggest Manchester United are ‘considering a bid’ for the 31-year-old this summer, although Chelsea are unwilling to sell.

Following the reports, United fans took to social media to give their reaction, with some clarifying when they should have signed the Frenchman. Here are some of what they had to say.

Idris Ahmed : When people talk about missing the boat, #Kantè is a great example.

Leicester was the golden opportunity..

Aekavin Narula : I think we are 6 years late to sign Kante! I could have chosen him when he was at Leicester and when Chelsea replaced him! We had Jose back then and additionally when we signed Pogba, Kante could have been the other midfielder we signed!

ban taylor : If Kante was a free agent, I would sign him, but we shouldn’t pay for him. The time to sign him was ofc when he left Leicester or maybe around 3 years ago when Lampard didn’t want him.

Raymond : If we had bought Kante from Leicester then it would be cool that he is now too old to be at Utd, we work him too much and break him too easily.

Ben Yeates : It’s very simple…#Kante @ #LCFC YES!! Now NO, because you are not weakening a rival, you are allowing him to strengthen himself with a better alternative to what he had before signing him!!!

Haider Rubbani : The time to sign Kante was before he went to Chelsea.

Too many times over the last decade we’ve missed something and then bought them years later when they were in decline.

The club must learn #MUFC
