Manchester United are set to miss out on the top four this season – Reuters

Manchester United will finish outside the top four this season, according to the ultimate football prediction machine.

As reported in The star of the dayFiveThirtyEight are the brains behind the supercomputer, which has predicted where each club will finish this season.

United are set to miss out on Champions League football, finishing the season in fifth place.

Current league leaders Arsenal have just a 14 per cent chance of retaining top spot, with champions Manchester City set to retain their crown.

Arsenal are expected to finish second, with Liverpool and Chelsea making the top four respectively.

Tottenham are expected to complete the top six, with Newcastle, who have started the season well, in seventh. Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Wolves are expected to drop.

United have a 3% chance of overhauling Arsenal and City to win the league in Ten Hag’s debut season.

Despite being ranked fifth, United have a 45 per cent chance of sneaking into the top four, with Chelsea just above them thanks to a 47 per cent chance of securing a Champions League place.

The 2% difference shows just how tight the fight for the top four spots will be, with the top seven teams battling it out to end the season in the coveted top four positions.

Erik Ten Hag will find solace after bouncing back from the disastrous start to the season, picking up wins over Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs, with a creditable point at Stamford Bridge won last time out.

Moreover, United have played the majority of their first 12 games against teams in the top half of the table and expect to rack up more points against the lower ranked teams.

Ten Hag will be aiming for maximum points in United’s final three Premier League games before the World Cup break, starting today at home to West Ham. Aston Villa at home and a trip to Fulham make up the final matches on the pre-tournament schedule.
