Manchester United contacts Manchester City target Denis Zakaria

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder and Manchester City target Denis Zakaria.

According to the journalist from Sport Italia Gianluigi Longari, Manchester United and Juventus have become the latest entrants in the race to sign Denis Zakaria. The Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder is apparently emerging as one of the most requested midfielders in the transfer market as he is expected to leave the club for free at the end of the season.

As a result, the clubs are keen to offer him a discounted deal in the upcoming January transfer window. Zakaria has already been linked with a move to Manchester City several times this season, with Pep Guardiola potentially identifying him as a long-term replacement for aging Fernandinho.

Their rivals across town Manchester United are not far away either. The report suggests they have already made contact with Gladbach’s midfielder, hoping to get him back in the winter window. There is no doubt that the Red Devils are on the hunt for a new midfielder after facing heavy criticism this summer.

Their disappointing performance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only made the problem worse. United have been linked with several midfielders throughout the season so far, including Leeds United superstar Kalvin Phillips. But it seems they are now open to looking for a more profitable alternative and therefore have landed on Zakaria.

Highly regarded as one of the most gifted midfielders in the Bundesliga, the Swiss international has enjoyed immense success since arriving at Gladbach in 2017. He has landed more than 100 appearances in competition for the Foals, making a name by its tenacity, its aggressiveness and fighting spirit.

His ability to act as a running back has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe. Even Real Madrid have shown interest in the former Young Boys starlet, although their wish to pursue only a transfer from Bosman may exclude them from the competition. Moreover, the player recently confessed to his teammates that he wanted to play in the Premier League.

He hands the ball back to Manchester City and Manchester United. But they aren’t the only ones interested in the services of Zakaria, who is identified as an ideal long-term replacement for Gini Wijnaldum by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool’s involvement in this transfer pursuit certainly points to an intriguing saga for Zakaria in the upcoming January transfer window. It also bodes well for Gladbach, essentially giving them the advantage of jacking up the midfielder’s price and cashing it in to avoid letting him leave the club for free next summer.
