Manchester United fans react to Cristiano Ronaldo winning another individual accolade

Manchester United haven’t been good this year. Indeed whatever the result of the last game of the season against Crystal Palace, the club will end the season with its lowest points total of the Premier League era.

Although his mid-season drought may have contributed to United’s problems, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the only players to emerge from this campaign with his reputation fully intact. The Portuguese striker has scored 18 goals in 30 games this season and is only behind Heung Min-Son and Mohamed Salah in the goalscoring charts.

Ronaldo’s goals have mostly come at the end of the season and this month has been no different, with the forward scoring five goals in four games for United. And it looks like his exploits haven’t gone unnoticed, with the striker now picking up two individual awards.

First, Ronaldo won the Premier League Player of the Month award in April and now he’s followed that up by also winning the PFA award for the same period. This is in addition to United’s individual POTM award and the club’s Goal of the Month award, which he won for his free-kick against Norwich City.

Ronaldo put himself in contention for the accolade after netting a hat-trick against Norwich City to win the game 3-2 as well as goals against Arsenal and Chelsea. United’s number seven had never scored against Chelsea before in the Premier League before last month’s game.

Ronaldo beat Son, Bruno Guimaraes, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin de Bruyne and James Ward-Prowse for the award. It may offer some compensation for the fact that he was snubbed in nominations for Premier League Player of the Season last week.

Given the circumstances surrounding the club currently and their failure to qualify for Europe, the celebrations were obviously drowned out by United fans, but they were quick to congratulate Ronaldo on social media. Here is a selection of their responses on Twitter:
