Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is set to join Birmingham City on loan, according to the Daily mail.
The 19-year-old joined the Red Devils in 2019 from Monaco and impressed with his performances for the Under-21s, registering six goals and 17 assists in 40 appearances.
He made his senior debut in the final league game of the 2020-21 season and has since made two further appearances for United.
West Bromwich Albion and Spanish club Andorra FC were also interested in signing him on loan, but it looks like Birmingham have the race for him.
John Eustace’s side have had a poor start to the season, winning just one of their six league games.
The Blues are struggling to score goals this season so they are looking for a playmaker who can create more chances for their forwards Troy Deeney and Scott Hogan.
Moving the loan will be the best option
Mejbri will be the fifth player to leave Old Trafford on loan this season.
Dean Henderson has joined newly promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest in July followed by Alex Telles and Eric Bailly who respectively moved to Seville and Marseille. Meanwhile, young Spaniard Alvaro Fernandez also signed for Preston North End last month.
Mejbri is a very talented midfielder, but he will have to be patient for first-team opportunities at Old Trafford.
He’s only 19 and needs to learn a lot before he’s ready to play in United’s senior team.
For now, a loan from Championship side Birmingham is the best for his development.
He can hope for more first-team opportunities at St Andrew’s which is very important at this stage of his career.
