Manchester United are considering an approach for Ralf Rangnick if he cannot keep Mauricio Pochettino away from Paris Saint-Germain during the season.
The search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ongoing and talkSPORT understands ex-Tottenham boss Pochettino as the No.1 pick.
However, the Argentine has a contract at PSG which means Man United could struggle to get him in before the summer.
And talkSPORT understands that the Red Devils will look to hire German Rangnick as their interim boss if that turns out to be the case.
In a Northwest Football Awards report, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook said: “The name on most people’s lips is still Mauricio Pochettino – we know he really is the man Man United have aimed at.
“But as far as an interim manager goes, if they can’t get Pochettino out of Paris this side of the summer, then maybe Ralf Rangnick could be a live contender, that’s what I’ve got. heard here. “
Michael Carrick has taken the reins as the club search for a new manager until the end of the season, and his first game in charge is a crucial Champions League clash at Villarreal on Tuesday night, live and exclusively on talkSPORT 2.
After that, Man United have a tough trip against Premier League leaders Chelsea, but their December fixture list, dubbed ‘easy’ by talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham, looks more like the Red Devils on paper.
Man United’s December games
Arsenal (H) Premier League – December 2
Crystal Palace (H) Premier League – December 5
Young Boys Champions League (M) – December 8
Norwich (A) Premier League – December 11
Brentford (A) Premier League – December 14
Brighton (H) Premier League – December 18th
Newcastle (A) Premier League – December 27
Burnley (H) Premier League – December 30
There are 21 points up for grabs in the Premier League and a win over Young Boys should be enough to seal qualification for the round of 16 no matter what happens at Villarreal.
December is a great opportunity for whoever runs Man United to get the season back on track.
Listen to Villarreal’s full commentary against Manchester United live on talkSPORT 2, kicks off at 5:45 p.m.
