Manchester United want to keep Edinson Cavani next month amid Barcelona interest

After signing a new 12-month contract this summer, Cavani has only made three starts for United this season due to a tendon problem in his leg and the return of Cristiano Ronaldo as the first-choice striker of United.

Speculation in Spain has suggested the 34-year-old would be interested in a move to Barca, but it is understood United want him to see the remaining six months of his contract.

The recent Covid outbreak at the club – which meant only seven players were available for Saturday’s postponed game against Brighton – also underscores the need for a great squad as the Premier League seeks to weather the pandemic.

United are expected to resume first-team operations at their Carrington training base on Tuesday after it closed on Thursday in an attempt to stem the rate of infection.

Meanwhile, defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka was banned from driving for six months and fined £ 31,500 after admitting to driving while disqualified and uninsured.
