The Austrian’s spell at Old Trafford was mediocre to say the least, with Manchester United failing to improve under Rangnick and then finishing 2021/22 with their lowest points tally in Premier League history.
Rangnick took charge of 29 games for United – winning 11, drawing nine and losing nine.
Among those defeats were an embarrassing FA Cup exit to Middlesbrough, a 4-1 loss to Manchester City and 4-0 defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Brighton.
Rangnick has since left the club altogether as he was set to take on a consultant role for two years.
And now the Austrian boss has opened up on his time at Manchester, saying United’s problems were clear to him after just two weeks:
“After just two weeks it was clear to me where the problems were and what would need to be done to fix them – but the question is whether you have the ability to change these things,” Rangnick told Der Standard. .
The 64-year-old was also asked if he would select Cristiano Ronaldo for Austria if he was eligible to represent the country.
“He’s not Austrian,” Rangnick replied curtly.
Erik ten Hag has since taken over from Rangnick at Manchester and has had a mixed start. United lost to Brighton at Old Trafford for the first time in their history on the opening weekend before being crushed 4-0 by Brentford.
However, the Red Devils went on to beat Liverpool 2-1 and more recently overtook Southampton.
