Since taking over the club at the end of 2021, Newcastle United have marked their authority in the transfer market and bought top names to help them stay in the Premier League.
Under Eddie Howe, the Magpies have now won six of their last seven league games and are moving away from the relegation zone week after week.
Their recruitment was a major factor in this regard. Keiran Trippier, Dan Burn, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimarães were all brought to the club in the January window – and they all had their own individual impact.
With safety now looking likely, the club hierarchy can plan ahead and see how they can continue to climb higher in the standings and possibly challenge for the top honours.
Stones celebrates with his Manchester City team-mates
Stones is one of Newcastle’s ‘dream signings’
According to Dean Jones of GiveMeSportone Manchester City player who is on Newcastle’s wishlist is England international John Stones.
The defender has been named alongside compatriots Harry Kane and Dean Henderson as their ‘dream signatures’.
The report also points out that Burnley’s James Tarkowski is seen as a more realistic target, but Newcastle are hoping to negotiate with City to acquire Stones.
The centre-back has been excellent for Pep Guardiola over the past 12 months and was recently rewarded with another contract extension – keeping him at the club until at least 2026.
Stones was one of Guardiola’s first signings in 2016 and he has since won three Premier League titles and countless domestic honours.
