Pep Guardiola talks about the ‘good vibes’ brought to Manchester City by new signings

Pep Guardiola is full of praise for Erling Braut Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Stefan Ortega and Julian Alavrez for the character they have shown since joining Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola praised Manchester City‘s four new signings for the character they’ve shown since joining the club.

Citizens added Erling Braut Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega into their ranks this summer, while the addition of January Julian Alvarez also joined the first team.

Haaland became City’s first major signing this summer when the Premier League champions activated the £51m release clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund on July 1.

City also paid £42million to sign Phillips from boyhood club Leeds United, while Ortega and Alvarez joined Arminia Bielefeld and River Plate respectively, the former joining on a free transfer and the latter signing for around 14. £2 million.

All four players trained with the first team during their tour of the United States and Guardiola said the foursome made good first impressions this summer.

Asked by On how his new signings have settled into the club, Guardiola said: “Step by step. It won’t happen in a day or two.

“We can’t put too much pressure on these players. We have to get them houses, apartments in Manchester, and over the sessions what we want them to do will increase.

“First impressions of Julian, Kalvin, Erling and Stefan were really good – they seem like good people. Having good vibes in the dressing room is more important than tactics.”

Guardiola also spoke about the absence of the first-team trio Phil Foden, John Stones and Ilkay Gundoganall of whom are training with the club’s Under-23 squad in Croatia after failing to meet United States entry requirements.

“It’s disappointing, I wish they were here,” the Spaniard told reporters via the Daily mail. “Our second season, when we finished with 100 points, was the only season we were all together.

“Since then, four players have always arrived, then another one a week later. We started these seasons with incredible problems. Every year we lose points.

“This season I thought maybe we would all be together, but because of the personal situation of these players. But that’s how it is, we’re going to move on and we have to adapt.

“Pre-season can last three, four, five weeks, but now it’s over. But they’re fit, they’re training with the Under-23s and they’ll come back and join us and everything will be fine.”

Central defender Aymeric Laporte is another City star who has not traveled to the United States as he continues his recovery from injury in England.

The Citizens are due to face Club America in Houston on Thursday, before Guardiola returns to former club Bayern Munich in Wisconsin on Sunday.

City will then return to England for the Community Shield against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on July 30, before beginning their Premier League title defense with an opener at West Ham United on August 7.

Meanwhile, Guardiola has played down suggestions linking citizens to a movement to Paris Saint Germain forward Neymarand he also confirmed that Oleksandr Zinchenko leaves the club ahead of his proposed move to Arsenal.
