Roberto Firmino ‘would suit Manchester United’ as Liverpool move on offer

Manchester United have been asked to make a move for Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino this summer.

Firmino has been an influential figure throughout Jurgen Klopp’s reign, winning five trophies while scoring 96 goals in 318 appearances.

The Brazilian, however, is approaching the final 12 months of his contract to spark speculation over his long-term future at the Reds. And fellow countryman Kleberson, who won the FA Cup with United in 2004, believes last season’s Europa League finalists should consider trying to lure Firmino to East Lancs Road after another fruitless campaign.

“Roberto Firmino’s style would suit Manchester United, especially the way he plays for Liverpool,” said the former Brazil international midfielder. “For the Brazil national team he plays higher, but for Liverpool he’s a bit deeper. He’s learned so much from Jurgen Klopp and he’s so smart on the pitch. His movement to create space, or sometimes to occupy space, allows his teammates..

“If Manchester United wanted to make a change, he’s a good player who can help, especially with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho on the wings. Firmino can help these players create space when they’re up front.

“He’s the type of player Manchester United should be looking at. A player with Firmino’s quality can help liberate the team. He’s a great player and he would be a good candidate and a good signing for Manchester United.”

Speaking to Paddy Power, Kleberson has also highlighted the importance of Mohamed Salah and believes Liverpool should pay the money to stop the Egyptian from walking away once his contract expires next summer.

“Liverpool must keep Salah,” he said. “He has been improving for many years and hasn’t had a bad season. When you have a good player, sometimes you need to spend money to keep him. It’s really hard to let players go like Salah and continue to compete with Man City.

“I can’t think of a single player who can go to Liverpool and play the way Salah plays. I don’t see anyone for that role, he’s so comfortable at Liverpool. He understands the game and plays like the team the wants. “
