Aston Villa have become the second Premier League club in as many days to show their head coach the door, confirming they have parted ways with manager Dean Smith.
Smith, named Villa boss in 2018, was eliminated after a streak of five successive Premier League defeats, including Friday night’s 1-0 loss to Southampton at St Mary’s.
The loss to the Saints left Villa 15th in the table, just two points above the relegation spots.
Smith’s exit from Villa Park came less than 24 hours after Norwich City sacked Daniel Farke, meaning both clubs are now on the hunt for new bosses.
Smith’s exit from the Midlands club has sparked a backlash from several Manchester United supporters online, who are desperate to see a change in leadership at Old Trafford.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has overseen four defeats in United’s last six league games and a growing number of supporters are calling for his sacking, with yesterday’s loss to Manchester City at Old Trafford being the last straw for a lot.
United considered sacking Solskjaer after the loss to Liverpool, but they had no succession plan and did not like Antonio Conte – the Italian having since been appointed to Tottenham to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, with Smith being shown the door after poor form, United fans are urging the club to make a similar decision with Solskjaer.
Below, MEN Sports took a close look at what some United fans had to say on social media.
As you can see from the messages posted in the Tweets above, United supporters are desperate for the club to make a decisive appeal to their manager.
