Posh will face the Terriers at John Smith’s Stadium in a league game tonight (March 4, 7:45 p.m.) and McCann is full of awe at how his opponents have improved after a troubled 2020-21 season.

Huddersfield finished 20th last season but start tonight’s game in third place. They are currently on a run of 15 league matches unbeaten.

“Huddersfield has real unity, real unity,” McCann said. “They have energy, they are aggressive and they have good players. They have decent experience and in Lewis O’Brien they have one of the best midfielders in the division. They are really fit.

“It would be amazing to think we could create something similar at our club in time, but for now we will focus on putting our stamp on the game and giving them something to worry about to try. to get three points.”

McCann hopes a stellar performance in the FA Cup loss to Manchester City will give his side the confidence to deliver a shocking result. Posh has lost 15 of 17 away games this season.

“The City game was a great game to be in,” added McCann. “It was a great experience to play well against world class players. We explained ourselves well, but quickly moved on to preparing for Huddersfield.

“I would like to see the same intensity because if we repeat that for the next 13 games, we will win a lot.

“I’ve been happy with how the players have reacted to the changes I’m trying to make. We are all pulling in the same direction. We are not running a dictatorship here. We want feedback from players and it has been positive so far.

Captain Oliver Norburn is set to return to the starting line-up tonight after missing the game against City through suspension. Fellow midfielder Reece Brown is not eligible to play as he is on loan at Posh from Huddersfield.

Brown and Jack Taylor will feature in the Posh Under-23 Premier League Cup game against Charlton Athletic at Weston Homes Stadium today (1pm).
