Three-time winners Manchester United crowned best Premier League team of all time

Manchester United’s 1999 hat-trick team was voted the best team in Premier League history.

The Red Devils have ruled English football since the advent of the Premier League in 1992 with Sir Alex Ferguson leading United to new heights season after season.

Manchester United have won 13 league titles in the 21 years since 1992, which is an incredible feat in one of the toughest football leagues in the world.

Meanwhile, many great United sides featured under Sir Alex, but the 1999 side etched their name among immortals by winning the famous treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League that that year.

In what is the 30th year of the Premier League, Betfair has conducted a survey with YouGov and asked more than 1,000 football fans to decide who were the biggest and unluckiest English top-flight teams since 1992.

And the legendary 1999 hat-trick team won with 19% of the vote.

United’s squad in 1999 was made up of legends like Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham to name a few.

The most incredible aspect of their hat-trick is that to date, no club has been able to replicate that feat.

In the voting, United’s hat-trick team beat Arsenal’s Invincibles, who came second. Arsene Wenger’s side went unbeaten for the entire 2003/04 Premier League season and shared second place with 2019/20 Premier League winners Liverpool, with both teams securing 15% of the vote.

United completed a 33-match unbeaten streak in the 1998-99 season on the way to a treble, in which they also beat Nottingham Forest 8-1.

Arsenal’s invincibles were expected to be second given their invincibility. Liverpool also deserved their place after Jurgen Klopp led them to their first league title after 30 years.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side who managed to reach 100 points in the 2017-18 season came fourth.

The Red Devils appear in fifth place again for winning a Premier League title for the third straight season in the 2008/09 season.

Surely Leicester City’s surprise Premier League title win in 2015-16 should have been on this list.

Man City team in 2018/19, Chelsea team in 2004/05, Blackburn heroes in 1994/95 and Chelsea team in 2016/17 won the last four places in the votes.
